Why Gun Control Is Bad

Weapon Control Argumentative Essay All firearms can possibly be risky and ought to be maneuvered carefully. Weapons have been a piece of American life for whatever length of time that individuals can recollect. For a great many people firearms are seen as risky and hurtful. In any case, that isn't correct; weapons can be hazardous, however just in the event that they are in an inappropriate hands. Possessing a weapon is correct that each American ought to have the option to invest wholeheartedly in having. Weapons are utilized for self-protection, chasing, law implementation and different employments. The option to possess a weapon is ensured in the second sacred amendment. Therefore, prohibiting firearms from being claimed or bought isn't right and illegal. Weapon control in the United States ought to be annulled. The facts confirm that right around 100,000 individuals are harmed or slaughtered by weapons in the United States each year (Scalia). Be that as it may, 3. 5 million indivi duals in the United States have cover to-convey and proprietors grants for their weapons (Stearns). These wounds are for the most part unplanned and just around 17 percent of those are criminal (Scalia). Unmistakably, a large portion of the weapons possessed in America are utilized for self protection and are not implied for hurt. More than 100 million individuals in the United States own firearms exclusively for self-protection (Stearns).Cliff Stearns said parents in law Permitting Concealed Guns Ensure Public Safety, Å"Found in an examination by the U. S. Division of Justice, 64 percent of indicted criminals said they had been frightened away or Å"shot off by a casualty conveying a disguised gun (Stearns). This unmistakably demonstrates permitting disguised weapons diminishes wrongdoing and ensures individuals. Thusly, the geniuses of covered weapons exceed its cons. One contention is that a great many unlawful guns are sold and dispersed all through the United States each yea r; this is a motivation behind why some propose restricting firearms completely. On the opposite, over $100 million in United States government income is produced by legitimate weapon and ammo deals each year (Weir 156). In spite of the fact that there are numerous weapons sold wrongfully, the practically the entirety of firearm and ammo deals are lawful (Weir 128). Likewise, if all out firearm control was permitted, it would deny Americans from chasing. A few Americans chase exclusively to take care of their families. As William Weir said in A Well Regulated Militia, Å"The deals of firearm and ammo help invigorate the economy (Weir 203). Unmistakably the matter of unlawful firearm deals would possibly increment and make more issues if complete weapon control was allowed. Also, the United States government would lose a significant wellspring of income by restricting weapons. At last, attacks of illicit weapon and ammo stashes by law authorization are sold legitimately for a valuable benefit. The option to remain battle ready is secured by the second Constitutional correction. Having said this, all firearm bans ought to be protected, anyway they are most certainly not. Some way or another officials figure out how to function around the second alteration and uphold weapon bans. For instance, the District of Columbia has a somewhat exacting weapon boycott (Scalia). This is particularly amusing in light of the fact that it is the countries capital, where opportunity ought to be at its most elevated. In any case, in D. C. it is illicit to have a handgun in your home (Scalia). Antonin Scalia composed this about D. C. s weapon boycott justified to Own a Gun Is Guaranteed by the Constitution, Å"The Districts absolute restriction on handgun ownership in the home adds up to a forbiddance of a whole class of Å"arms that Americans decide for legal self-defense (Scalia). This boycott, as other firearm bans, legitimately opposes the second alteration to the Constitution. There is likewise a trigger lock strategy in D. C. which is additionally incompletely precluding firearms (Scalia). This trigger lock strategy is illegal too. The arrangement precludes the weapon to be utilized for self protection. This boycott and trigger lock strategy, alongside others, are unlawful and wrong. Firearm control in the United States ought to be nullified. A few people in the United States accept that firearm control is vital. Notwithstanding, obviously weapon control isn't right and unlawful. Weapon control straightforwardly disregards the second naturally change and ought not be allowed.Allowing hidden firearms acquires income for the administration, yet, it additionally keeps the open safe. More than 100 million individuals in the United States own weapons exclusively with the end goal of self-protection. Those individuals have the right to have the option to have and keep that directly as a resident of the United States. It is the privilege of the American individ uals to settle on the decision on whether to claim a weapon or not. The beneficial outcomes that weapons have on individuals exceed the negative impacts. Anyway it ought to be noticed that, all weapons can possibly be perilous and ought to be maneuvered carefully.

The Cold War On American Soil - 1607 Words

When Randy picks up Helen and her children, he notices that his niece and nephew are far more accepting of nuclear annihilation then the older generation. He tells Helen, Maybe one day I ll get conditioned. I ll accept things, like the children (Frank 85). Randy is commenting on the effect that the political climate of the time has on the children. Frank wrote the novel in the 1950 s, a time when the U.S. was engaged in the Cold War with the Soviet Union. Most likely, Peyton and Benjamin grew up surrounded by discussion and predictions of nuclear warfare. Today s children have grown up in a post 9/11 world similarly surrounded by fear mongering. Like Peyton and Benjamin, we have grown up in an era that is shaped by an event. While†¦show more content†¦On the other hand, Helen clings to the hope that the Hole was safe. The children have the ability to analyze military events and project the impact that they will have on their lives. Benjamin predicts the events in the eastern Mediterranean will start a nuclear war. When Peyton calls her mother Mommy, you realize how young she is. It s moments like that, that make the reader question whether the kids should be so aware of the events going on around them. Today often times on the news, we ll see kids being interviewed at refugee camps in Syria. There is that same degree of precociousness that Helen saw in her kids reflected in the lives of children suffering because of political turmoil. Throughout the novel, it s a little unsettling how readily the children adapt other new world. Some of the characters deaths are dehumanized and readers feel detached from them. For example, Marks death is readily accepted by Benjamin and Frank uses little time to process it. Mark dies in Omaha with millions of others in a nuclear attack, and so his death is passed off as a statistic. In contrast, Malachi dies right in front of the reader and so his death is more humanized. Although Frank acknowledges that the children are more inured to tragedy than their parents, he takes time to remind the readers that they are still children and should not be exposed to such realities. Reading Chapter Books for Children

As your children grow in their reading ability, transitioning from sounding out each word and following the sentences with their fingers to reading more quickly on their own, they will need to graduate to more complicated reading material. As they become stronger readers, children develop appetites for richer and more complex stories and can handle multiple characters. Chapter books are an important tool in their development and intellectual abilities. What Are Chapter Books? For young and new readers, books tend to be very short. They are made up of just words or a few short sentences. They are primarily very picture heavy and have a simple, linear story. Chapter books are the next stage for readers. Chapter books are stories that are long enough and complex enough to require chapters to break them up. At a young age, they are not too long; they are shorter than novels but longer than typical picture books. Chapter books often have illustrations, too, but they are not as large or as prevalent as early reading material. In general, children are ready to progress to chapter books around the age of seven or eight. Encouraging Active Readers For children who love to read, they will likely dive into chapter books without much hesitation. Providing them with an assortment of stories and types of books can increase their interest and keep them learning. Taking your child to the library and having him or her pick her own chapter books can be a great way to engage them in reading. As your children read chapter books, resist helping too much. If your child is an independent reader, he or she will likely want to learn on their own. But make sure they know they’re available if they have any questions. Helping Struggling Readers On the other hand, if your children are struggling with reading and resist transitioning to chapter books, you may have to have more of a presence. As reading becomes more difficult, children can become more resistant to it and it can become a chore. You can help by having your children pick books they’re interested in. Actively participate in reading with your child. You can take turns reading chapters to one another; that way, your children get to practice but also get a break while you read aloud. Hearing you and listening to the story can engage them and encourage them to read on their own to get to the next part. Popular Chapter Books To help your child make the transition to chapter books, compelling stories can help pique his or her interest. Popular chapter books include The Boxcar Children, Freckle Juice, Diary of a Wimpy Kid and the Amelia Bedelia series. You can also try different genres, such as adventure stories, animal-centric tales, and fantasy books. Transitioning to Chapter Books Making the switch to chapter books is a big step in your child’s education. With your support and engagement, you can help a lifelong love of reading that can help your child throughout his or her lifetime.

Utilitarianism and Happiness - 945 Words

Utilitarianism In his book, J.S. Mill attempts to build on Jeremy Benthams original idea of Utilitarianism. His definition of the moral theory is one that is grounded in Benthams original work but also extends to include remarks to criticisms of Utilitarianism. Mill believes that, like Bentham, utility is what is valuable to society. Utility, according to Mill, is the promotion of pleasure or the absence of pain. He defines this as happiness, which is why he refers to utility as the Greatest Happiness Principle (Mill 55). Thus, pleasure (or painlessness) is what society finds valuable. Because society finds happiness valuable, it must attempt to maximize total happiness. Mill describes that the presence of pleasure and the absence†¦show more content†¦Furthermore, what is necessary to contemplate is not the utility of the action worth praising but the praise itself. This means that praise is its own action and not a remark on a previous action. The idea that praising actions that one may not approve may not sit well with dissenters of utilitarianism immediately. One might find that immoral and wrong. However, in the case of a utilitarian, whose moral actions are based the fact that the overall happiness of society is valuable and one must do all they can to maximize it, one can see that if an action goes against your ideals, but can bring about the greatest happiness, one must, according to Utilitarianism, commit that action. For instance, in Smarts article, he tells of a story where the initial actions of a blacksmith incorrectly mounting a horseshoe led to the loss of the horse that led to the loss of a knight and ultimately the loss of the kingdom. The question here is who to blame? The knight? The blacksmith? The horse? In response, Smart said: Whose was the responsibility? The act-utilitarian will quite consistently reply that the notion of the responsibility is a piece of metaphysical nonsense and should be replaced by ‘Whom would it be useful to blame? (Smart 54) Essentially, Utilitarianism states that who to blame does not matter because it does nothing to promote pleasure or demote pain. Literature Review - Essay Example Its symptoms include palpitations, shortness of breath, fatigue, and dizziness. Other symptoms of AF include poor exercise intolerance, generalized weakness, and irregular pulse (Cottrell, 2011). It can also result in death. Despite this, over 90% of the victims of AF maybe not show any symptoms (Cottrell, 2011). The risk factors of AF include degeneration heart disease and atherosclerosis. Obesity, hypertension as well as metabolic syndrome and diabetes that are associated with cardiovascular disease are also the risk factors for AF (Cottrell, 2011 and Campbell-Cole & Lee, 2014). Apart from the structural complications of the heart, causes of AF may also be as a result of the thoracic surgery as well as coronary artery bypass grafts. Complications of AF include stroke, heart failure, and in severe can lead to death (Campbell-Cole & Lee, 2014). AF is often diagnosed by an irregular pulse. However, this is often confirmed by ECG (Elliott, 2014). Use of ECG helps one to identify acute changes and co-existing cardiac abnormalities like left-ventricular hypertrophy (Elliott, 2014). Management of this disorder includes considering patients with AF for anticoagulation. However, anticoagulation may also increase the risk of serious bleeding, and as a result of this, patients need to be informed about AF and treatment options (Elliott, 2014). According to Roberts and his colleagues (2015), warfarin therapy is crucial for prevention of systematic embolism as well as stroke associated with AF. It also aids in the prevention of venous thromboembolism. The decision for use of warfarin in stroke prevention is based on the CHADS2 score; 1 point for congestive heart failure, age above 75 years, hypertension and diabetes mellitus, and 2 points for transient ischaemic attack (Roberts et al., 2015). Patients using warfarin should be cared t hrough approaches such as usual care by the GP, patient self-monitoring, and laboratory care program. As a

Remarking Public Exams Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2000 words

Remarking Public Exams - Essay Example In recent years, remarking of exam papers has come under acute scrutiny. In 2001-2002, this had been a big issue in the GCSE and A-levels examinations because the grades were very different from expectations and widely fluctuated. Questions like should the students be compensated if there is a legal action, has cropped up many times. This also resulted in some students taking a gap year. Students and parents were both disturbed by this years grading and it had not been easy for anybody. But schools were told that the variations are normal and had to be accepted1. There was an enquiry by the watchdog QCA and the question is not completely answered who and how the remarking should take place. Confusion has created a crisis. In 2001, A-level examinations saw 4,194 candidates had their grades increased by the normal procedure which rather shook the trust in the exam system. In 2002, BBC reported that A-level students can ask for re-marking. "Over 12,000 pupils across Wales have discovered they may have had their A-level papers incorrectly marked after English examination boards admitted they downgraded some results". http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/wales/2268475.stm In 2002, during the crisis of remarking, The Chief Executive of the qualifications and curriculum authority gave exam boards and connected officials to come up with new guidelines as the existing guidelines proved inadequate. In 2003, exam board replaced paper marking with US designed technology to improve the speed and process. In 2005, more than 18,000 A-level and GCSE examination grades were changed after complaining. According to The Qualifications and Curriculum Authority's report, 53,600 of the 6.7 million A and AS-level entries were challenged. Of the six million GCSE, 48,422 enquiries happened and out of them 10.773 were altered. These figures relate to the five main exam boards, AQA, Edexzcel, OCR, WJEC and CCEA2. The revised grades helped many students in their university admissions. Government3 was of the opinion that regional centres of the exam boards would carry out the remaking as usual on priority because the deadline for remarking was almost over on every occasion and a fresh deadline was necessary to be authorised from the QCA. Over the recent years, there were rumours that wrong grades had been awarded and there was widespread unhappiness that lower grades caused problems during university admissions and funding possibilities which will in turn have problems on teaching and accommodation facilities etc. as a lower grade would create a continuous chain reaction, more so, when the student was sure of getting a better grade. The so-called gold standard exam has created unnecessary uncertainty which is rather unfortunate. If the exam results are significantly worse than expectation and are almost beyond belief, it becomes necessary to ask for a remarking instead of nursing a grievance that could become a psychological stumbling block. Teachers are equally mystified not knowing mostly what exactly the Board is looking for. Students are uncertain about re-sits. Some of the students who got upgraded after the review were happy, but the confusion and lack of trust in the system prevailed. Many questions were asked: Is it necessary to move away from standard based assessments Are there better ways of marking so that a remarking is not called for If remarking becomes an absolute necessity, are there better wa

How to Play Texas Holdem Essay Example for Free

How to Play Texas Holdem Essay As a hobby for my spare time, I play poker. Texas Hold’em to be precise a game of skill, chance, and luck. This game can be a compotation, or just a way to have some fun with some friends. There are many different places to play holdem you can play at home, city leagues, or at the casino. Here are some basic rule and tips to playing the game; The game starts out by selecting a dealer, either by draw or setting posion. Once the dealer is picked and the cards are shuffled, and ready to start the deal. The two players to the left of the dealer put out blind bets. The first person to the left is the small blind while the second person from the dealer is the big blind. Every player is dealt two cards, face down. These cards are called hole or pocket cards. The first move, or action, falls on the player to the left of the big blind. This person can call the big blind, raise it or fold. This process continues around the table, clockwise. After the betting is completed, one card is placed face down this is called the burn card, three cards are then dealt face up in the center of the table, which is called the board. The first three cards in Texas Holdem are called the flop. These cards â€Å"community cards† meaning everyone can (and will) use them in combination with their own hole cards to make the best hand. From the flop on, betting begins with the player to the left of the dealer, who can check or bet. A forth card is dealt face up after the burn, is placed on the board. This is called the turn card. Another round of betting. A final card is dealt face up. This card is called fifth street or the river. A final round of betting occurs. The remaining players show their cards and the person who make the best five cards hand by combining their pocket cards with the cards on the board wins. In some rare cases in Texas Hold’em, the five cards on the board will actually be the best hand, in which case everyone left in the hand divides up the pot. Now you know how to play and all the Texas Hold’em rules. Have fun.

Comparative study between Blade Runner & Frankenstein Essay

Victor’s attitude is reactionary and domineering as he ostracises the Creature and employs diabolic epithets towards him such as ‘daemon’, completely disregarding the value of responsibility prevalent in Shelley’s era the perpetual darkness enveloping the ambient world echoes the ecological concerns of deforestation and global warming of the 1980s and thereby Blade Runner parallels Frankenstien insofar as both Shelley and Scott admonishes the disregard for nature as a reflection of shifting values toward artificial compromise. Pathetic fallacy of ‘the dreary glaciers are my refuge’ mimics the Creature’s isolation to convey the inherent role of nature in Shelley’s Romantic context as weather supplements his emotions. gothic conventions of heightened emotions are embodied with the Creature’s exaltation anthropomorphised nature ‘My spirits were elevated by the changing appearance of nature’, which values the subli me’s ability to inspire spiritual renewal. Intertextual ‘Immortal Game’ where Roy outplays Tyrell, symbolic of Tyrell’s eventual demise as a ramification for usurping God’s omnipotence. rapid technological progression of the 1980s forward, to represent a society where empathy has been replaced by pervasive commoditization. Scott incorporates the idea of people as commodities suggested by Roy labelled as a ‘prize’ embodies a cautionary message through a foreboding biblical reference to Lucifer, â€Å"you seek knowledge†¦may be a serpent to sting you’ to reinforce the irony of Victor’s prolonged toil of pursuing more knowledge with little benefit. Hence, Victor’s unchecked scientific investigation is depicted as ultimately self-destructive and to that end, Shelley induces us to appreciate the need for moderation by exposing the complications of intellectual extremism. ‘I ought to be thy Adam, but I am rather the fallen angel’ Here, the Creature’s rational lexis is juxtaposed with Victor’s insect imagery â€Å"Begone! Vile insect†, whereby the Creature’s developed sense of morality in comparison to Victor’s tyrannical behaviour reflects Shelley’s concerns of morally deficient humans and by extension; Shelley berates the use of oppression as a means of governance.
